and has developed considerable projects in housing, services and commerce, urban design, hotel design, interior design and object design.

Ricardo Vieira de Melo

PhD in Architecture from the Universidade Lusíada - Oporto in 2016, and holds a Master's degree in Design from FAUP - The Faculty of Architecture of Oporto in 1998. Architect from the Faculty of Architecture of Lisbon in 1989. Believes that architecture is a privileged mean of improving the quality of life and human comfort, while respecting memory, biodiversity and the environment, and that project design is a powerful political instrument for proposing, organizing and anticipating.

 

Teacher of Architecture at the Universidade Lusíada of Oporto since 1994, he coordinates the 2nd year of the course and the Postgraduate Course in ‘Digital Practices’. Guest Professor on the Design Course at the University of Aveiro in 1997/98.

 

President of the Disciplinary Council of the Center Section of the Portuguese Order of Architects, between 2020 and 2023. He was President of the Aveiro Architects' Association between 2007 and 2010, as well as National Delegate in the three-year period from 2010 to 2013 in Lisbon. 

 

Atelier RVDM, arquitectos Lda is situated in Aveiro, and were founded in 1997. Award-winning national and international public competitions, it has built public and private projects from north to south of Portugal. Its work has been published in Portugal, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Finland, Russia, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, China, South Korea, Japan, the United States and Brazil, and a monograph of his work was published by Archinews #50 in 2021.

Public buildings are often urban landmarks that help people to have better urban experiences while living in shared space. 

At RVDM we design spaces for a qualified experience of public places.

Cities and humanized territories require multidisciplinary design, where architecture plays a significant coordinating role. Different programs work better when there is a common strategy for wider goals.

At RVDM, public space must be a place for everyone, prioritizing mobility, inclusivity, landscape, acoustic and climatic comfort.   

Public competitions, duly prepared, evaluated and rewarded, are moments of research and appreciation among peers, allowing our team for improved responses to the different programs requested. RVDM is pleased to have won some of the competitions in which we participated.
